Drive 2013 - Part 1 - to TX

On Sunday, June 2nd we began Part 1 of Drive 2013, heading from San Francico CA to Houston TX.

Sunday June 2 - At 6:09 am we left San Francisco (slideshow of 50 photos) , heading for Palm Springs, where Martha's cousin Nancy, partner Hal, and daughter Margo live. The visit turned out a little differently than expected - Hal was in the hospital, Margo was in LA, and Nancy's sister Kathy was visiting from Las Vegas. We were sorry to miss seeing Hal and Margo; however, we had a great visit with Nancy and Kathy. Check out this slideshow (50 photos).

Tuesday June 4 (20 photos) we drove from Palm Springs to Tucson AZ, and straight to the Postal History Foundation (website). There we had a wonderful tour of their operations, of their postal museum memorabilia, and the Slusser Memorial Philatelic Library. WOW! For dinner we met Martha's friend Barbara at the Blue Willow restaurant (website). The Hotel, the Sabino Canyon Comfort Suites, remains one of our favorites.

Wednesday June 5 (65 photos) we drove to Fort Stockton TX. The drive was long, but uneventful. Here's what we saw along the way...
Thursday June 6 (30 photos) we drove to Boerne TX. The drive was pleasant, but we were both tired, so it was good to have just a short day of driving. After a brief rest at the hotel, we drove (30 photos) to Little Gretl for lunch, and then to Main Street to buy the renowned Fickle Pickles for family and friends. Joyce introduced us years ago, and we've never found anything comparable.
Friday June 7 (35 photos) we finished Part I of Drive 2013 - we drove to Houston TX for a 12-day stay. And, a chance to do laundry!
