Problem: Installing and operating the various software programs
solution: Read online, practice, ask questions.

Problem: Setting up column widths.
Solution: Put a background-color for alternating columns, and then adjusted the widths again and again and again...

Problem: Creating a header and a footer
Solution: Add two new regions: a before-region, and an after-region

Problem: Creating a separate style for the first page, with a header and footer, and the rest with just a footer
Solution: I copied code from the XML Bible, and then just did endless adaptations.  I still don't understand it, but it seems to work.

Problem: Using Xalan
Solution: I was not successful in accessing it.  It's in the lib folder in the fop folder, but I don't know how to access it. SO - I still have to figure this out, but not now!
